A Quick Update

July 25, 2008

Hello again everyone. Thought it was about time for a quick update.

Things are starting to fall into place, and the fundraising activities are starting to pick up steam.

Boun Lod and her parents have completed some preliminary medical tests, and we’re just waiting for the Shriner’s Hospital to release a letter for US Immigration that will help with their visa applications. Hopefully, the letter will be released next week.

Thanks to generous donations by a number of people, we have already raised just over $3000, or about 10% of our goal. Donations have come from some surprising places, and have ranged from a few dollars to over $500. Thanks everyone! And please continue to discuss this with your family, friends, and connections.

A number of other fundraising activities are just getting underway.

We’ve had a couple of very generous donations of raffle items, and we’re looking for another item or two. We’re also in the process of applying for a government raffle license. We’ll have more details on this shortly.

Vientiane College in Laos is working on some fundraising ideas, and several of the teachers from the college are planning a sponsored walk from Vientiane to Luang Prabang to raise money.

We’ve approached the Pincher Creek Rotary Club, and it may be able to help us with some fundraising. I’ll be doing a presentation at their lunchtime meeting on August 21.

The Rotary Club president has also put us in touch with a children’s charity in Calgary, and has contacted the Cincinnati Rotary Club on our behalf. Thanks Ingrid!

We’ve also applied to a US-based children’s charity, but haven’t heard anything back yet.

Airfares will be a major expense, and we’re trying to get them donated. We’ve sent a letter to Thai Airways, but haven’t heard from them yet. If anyone has any connections in the airline industry, please let us know.

For those of you who are working on other fundraising ideas—thanks! Please let us know about your efforts so we can share them with others.

And if anyone else has some good fundraising ideas, please get after them!

Thanks to all of you, we’re off to a good start. Let’s continue to work to make sure Boun Lod gets the treatment she so badly needs.

The First Donations to the Boun Lod Fund

June 18, 2008

Congratulations to Chris and Saya who were married this past weekend in Waterton.

At a wedding shower a few weeks ago, they were kind enough to suggest that instead of a shower gift their guests should consider donating to the Boun Lod fund.

As a result, the first $300 was raised, and the Boun Lod fund was launched.

Thank you, Saya and Chris!

Greetings!

This is the place where we’ll try to keep you up to date on how things are going with Boun Lod. We’ll let you know how the fundraising is going, how the preparations for Boun Lod’s trip to Cincinnati are proceeding, and then, once she gets there, how she’s doing.

This will also be the place where you can pass on your greetings and best wishes to Boun Lod and her family.
